The Hilo Colectivo Summits (Cumbres) are an annual gathering to discuss and offer training in various aspects of children’s and young adult literature.

3a Cumbre de Hilo Colectivo The 3rd Hilo Colectivo Summit (2025) was held in a workshop format and titled “Creating Books with Humor.” We featured presentations by Fanuel Hanan Díaz: “An Overview of Humor in Children’s Literature”; Armin Alfonso Soler: “The Cannibal Child Has No Snot”; and Elisa Borrero and Jorge Inzunza: “No, It’s Not a Funny Drawing. Or Is It?”

2a Cumbre de Hilo Colectivo The 2nd Hilo Colectivo Summit (2024) was titled “Memory and Children’s Literature.” The panelists were: Adolfo Córdova (Crossing the Page: Stories of Migration in Current Children’s and Young Adult Literature); Cristina Keller (Illustration as a Memory Machine); Luisa Morales (Memory, a Meeting of Many Voices); Evelyn Palma (Disappearance in Children’s Literature: From Faces on Posters to Whales Emerging from the Sea); Elisa Borrero (Photography as Witness and Narrator); and Galia Ospina (Poetry and the Imaginaries of the Three Ages of Life).

I Cumbre de Hilo Colectivo The 1st Hilo Colectivo Summit (2023) focused on “The Writing and Illustration of Picture Books.” The panelists were: Soledad Sebastián (The Intentional Image); Cecilia Varela (Illustration and Narrative: Clues to Generating and Empowering an Alternative Narrative through Images); Fanuel Hanan Díaz (The Picture Book: A Range of Narrative Possibilities); Armin Alfonso Soler (Narrative Structures in Children’s Stories); Galia Ospina (Archetypes in Children’s Literature); and Mariana Llanos (Creating Witches and Vampires: Gender and Fantasy in Children’s Literature).
